Botox/Xeomin
Categories: Creases/Laxity/Sagging / Wrinkles
For eliminating forehead furrows, worry lines between brows, and crow’s feet around eyes, Botox / Xeomin work. Simple injections of the medicine into small tense facial muscles (the ones that cause wrinkles in the first place) take only a few minutes resulting in a smoother, relaxed, uplifted face. Elegant use of Botox / Xeomin creates a natural look, allowing for facial movement without calling attention to the treatment.
How do Botox and Xeomin work?
Your facial expressions are formed when small facial muscles under your skin contract. Over time, as your skin ages, these repeated expressions cause lasting wrinkles, worry lines, and crow’s feet lines. Highly purified neurotoxins such as Botox / Xeomin are FDA-approved treatments that work beneath the skin’s surface to target the underlying muscle contractions, reducing the tension and activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.
Will the treatments make me look fake, plastic, or overdone?
Botox and Xeomin are technique-sensitive treatments. The doctors at Tribeca Skin Center have 40 years of collective experience performing these treatments. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained and a medical expert in facial anatomy. Neurotoxins are the most widely used treatment for crow’s feet and frown lines.
When should I start?
Though it’s a personal choice, we recommend the treatments to patients who begin to notice their wrinkles or furrows standing out in pictures or becoming embedded over time. Some patients opt for Botox/Xeomin as a preventative treatment, easing the muscle contractions that cause the lines before they get etched-in and form creases. Most patients begin Botox/Xeomin treatments in their late 20s to mid 30s; but your 40s in not too late. Talk to your doctor if you are thinking about it.
What does the treatment feel like? How long does it take?
The treatment only takes a few minutes. Patients have described it as feeling like a pinch. Ice packs are used before and after the treatment to alleviate pain and swelling, and prevent potential bruising.
Will I need to take time off?
After your treatment, you can resume your day. There is no downtime. Rarely when bruises occur, they can be covered up with makeup and disappear quickly.
When will I see results? How long do they last?
Immediate results are sometimes apparent, but generally it takes a full week to see the effect of the treatment. The effect lasts for three to six months via temporary relaxation of tense facial muscles. The treatment can sometimes prevent further development of lines.
Are there any side effects?
Just like any injection, you may experience mild irritation, swelling, itching, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. These side effects typically resolve on their own. If any of these side effects persist for more than 7 days, contact us immediately.
